Speaking at the annual APPA national conference, President Norm Hart said today that members from across the nation had expressed deep concern at the lack of coordination and uneven resourcing for the roll-out across the States and Territories of an effective and truly national Australian Curriculum.

Mr Hart emphasised that this is not a reflection of the Australian Curriculum’s content or its value to Australian students.

Mr Hart said of the implementation program: “The APPA annual conference expressed its deep concern that there is no evidence of a properly considered and cohesive national implementation plan. This must happen as a matter of urgency to make sure that all students can benefit from a national curriculum.”

The Conference noted that to be effective, any implementation plan should ensure appropriate consultation with relevant stakeholders; specifically primary school principals who will be required to implement the curriculum in their schools.

The National Conference requested that the Minister for School Education, the Hon. Peter Garrett MP, enable ACARA to coordinate a cohesive implementation plan to provide strategic direction to schools and school systems and that this plan be properly supported and resourced.

The Australian Primary Principals Association represents 7,200 Government, Catholic and Independent principals across Australia.
