SchoolAid Victorian Bushfire Appeal - Thanks

On Monday, 9 February 2009, SchoolAid launched an Appeal for the Victorian school communities ravaged by the recent bushfires.

Maitland Public School studnes and their Appeal bannerSo far, over $800,000 have been raised by students and schools across Australia.

Sean Gordon, Founder of SchoolAid, said yesterday: "Australians have long been known for their generosity to those dealing with tough times, and within our own shores the Victorian bushfires were as tough as it gets. The response from our young people to their 'mates' in Victoria has been nothing short of outstanding in these times when the economic doom-and-gloom has people locking up their money.

"SchoolAid decided to pass the hat around our nation’s schools to see if we could help, and the response by way of funds and messages of support has demonstrated so powerfully the real and caring heart of our kids, school leaders and wider school communities.

"Firm in the belief that, in giving we have also received, I wish to warmly congratulate all who have contributed in any way to this wonderful outpouring of generosity, care and hope to those affected by the tragedy we now know as Black Saturday."

Funds raised by Australian schools will go to the schools, children and their communities affected by the Victorian bushfires.  SchoolAid is liaising and working closely with the Principals' associations and the Victorian Department of Education to ensure the funds go to the schools, kids and communities most in need.

Donations are still being accepted. For all the details that you need for your school, please click here to go to the SchoolAid Bushfire Appeal page on their website.
