Attitudes to Job-Sharing and Co-Principalship - "In recent years, as part of a number of research projects focusing on succession planning concerns, I have interviewed hundreds of leadership aspirants, avowed non-aspirants, and current leaders. My PhD research into Factors that Impact on Principal Class Leadership Aspirations (Lacey, 2003a) made a number of recommendations, including that employers ‘ensure that flexible work options are promoted at all leadership levels' and that employers ‘pilot a range of shared leadership principal-class and leading (senior) teacher positions' (Lacey, 2003a). In more recent research I have interviewed aspiring and current leaders, and a group of ex-principals who had retired prematurely. Attitudes to job redesign emerged, as they explored their concerns regarding the challenges posed by current demands of the role."
