Technical Leadership: Strathfieldsaye Primary School, Victoria - the school is "located ten kilometres to the east of Bendigo in central Victoria. We currently have 520 students and 32 staff members. The school has almost doubled in size in the past five years. The school is regarded well in the local community and has a reputation locally and more broadly for being a safe and welcoming learning environment. We have frequent visitors to the school to view our ‘Spiral Curriculum’ and environmental sustainability program which are regarded as innovative.
One of the key challenges for the leadership team in recent years has been to introduce and develop different management structures which better reflect the needs of the school at its current size. This has been critical in broadening management responsibilities and general ownership of school decision making. This is our year of self evaluation and strategic planning. From a personal point of view, I was pleased to be part of this from the school perspective, having previously worked in the Loddon Mallee Region as the Accountability Manager, with responsibility for overseeing this process for all our schools in the Region. I had opportunities to observe and contribute to evaluation and planning and was keen to implement the best methods.
Ensuring broad ownership of the evaluation process and subsequent planning was my key goal."
