Innovative and Promising Practices: Phenomenal Findings from MathPower's Research on the Benefits of Coaching - "In a break-through teacher and coach survey, MathPower has captured the benefits of the role of coaching! Teachers and coaches have reported statistically significant gains in five key areas that promote effective teaching. MathPower offers math coaching and professional development to elementary and middle school teachers in Boston Public Schools to help them improve their students’ understanding and proficiency in mathematics. All teachers have completed education programs at the undergraduate or graduate level. However, coaching provides the bridge between what teachers learned in pre-service programs and how they actually apply this knowledge to the elementary or middle school classroom. The teachers with whom the coaches work, in conjunction with the school’s administration, designate areas of focus."
