Lisa Rodgers, AITSL CEO, announced the launch of the new Leading for impact: Australian guidelines for school leadership development at the APPA Advisory Council meeting on 8 March 2018.
AITSL has worked closely with the profession to develop the guidelines, which set out evidence-informed guidance and recommendations to help systems, sectors and principals strengthen current approaches to supporting and developing future leaders, and ensure pathways to leadership are clear and inclusive.
The guidelines are informed by the Australian Professional Standard for Principals, and the Highly Accomplished and Lead career stages of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and highlight:
- how to develop and sustain high-quality leadership at all levels
- how to prepare and develop aspirants for the principal role.
The guidelines now form part of the Australian collective evidence base on leadership development, and the guidance and recommendations will support and strengthen what is already being done across the nation and lead to further improvement in the identification and development of future leaders.
